Once in Scotland, in an inn, I ordered a hamburger. The waitress came back some time later specially to ask me if I wanted onions on it. I said yes. When it arrived, I lifted the bun to reveal a charred black disk, curling up on itself and, in the centre, was the brown, caramelised, CENTRE RING ONLY of an onion slice!
