I'd count the invention of slow light a much bigger achievement. Not necessarily in STrek, but in many other shows the light beams travel slower than arrows.

A thing that amazes me is the alternate reality of ST... based on history in which seat belts were never invented. How many times have we seen them tumbling all over the bridge?
