>Maybe a better way to ask this is:

You would typically set it up so a user wouldn't have to have two different logins. But how you do it is optional.

However, having password changes enforced is becoming tedious (having to change on all computers with shares). I was hoping there would be an easier way.

You may just want to replicate the user accounts on the Samba box and forget about the idea of a Domain Controller. But then you're back to the question about "what to do if a user changes their password on the local PC?"
Do you manage it manually, and have some more flexibility since it's a small office? Or do you centralize the logins onto a single machine and maybe lose a little flexibility as a consequence?
You've got choices.
