Hey, less of the slur on our English cooking! :-) True, our grandmothers USED to boil the food till the molecules broke down but we're a bit more al dente nowadays. My nan, as soon as Xmas dinner was finished, used to put on the sprouts and swedes for the next year's! :-)

>Hey, pb isn't so bad ( actually the jelly helps ) - but of course my culinary standards are low as I grew up on the cooking of my English grandmother who cooked meat and vegetables together and knew they were done when you couldn't tell one from the other :-)

>( my English cousins claim the determining factor in the expansionist success of The Empire was the desperate search for good weather and good food ;-)

>And whatever you think of pb - at least it isn't Vegamite !

Eck! eck! The very thought of it! I always say that if the good Lord had meant us to eat PB then he would have given us Teflon-coated mouths and, if vegimite - he wouldn't have given us the wince reflex. Vegimite is Australian. The equivalent we get here is Marmite. They have a very clever ad campaign that concentrates on the people who hate it. One example has a young guy who's just met this hot girl, and gone back to her place. She has a bite of a M sandwich and then they kiss. Next scene he pushes her off in disgust and tries to scrub his tongue!

>>Eck! I just saw your reference to eating a chip butty with peanut butter on it. I've rarely eaten food that made me retch straight off but PB is one. I reckon if the Good Lord had meant us to eat it he would have given us Teflon-coated mouths. And as for PBJ, which it seems half of N. America was brought up on, it's virtually unheard of over here.

>>>For a while I remember being fond of the same recipe, but with peanut batter added too.
