Intermittent problems on the phone line?

Has this been happening for a long time?

Has the system been running OK for a while with SP2 installed?

I had a similar sounding problem (but I have a router in my configuration, for what that's worth) when my ISP sold out to another and I had to switch setups and after much diagnosis they opened a "ticket" (WOW... so official sounding!) and it took to next morning for it to be fixed.

Actually, I'm still technically connected, because my connection icon in the taskpane is still there and my modem lights are all green, but I can't get any response fro any server. My MSN Messenger will also disconnect.
