My relationship to the latter is not one of love-and-hate, no, it's only one of hate. Most of us have had similar experiences and when searching for a new tool for a new type of job will evaluate both commercial and freeware products, of course hoping that a free product outperforms every commercial product, like InnoSetup does in my eyes. Also important are the hints that others give. After having evaluated the various products a choice will be made. Price is then one of the factors and for some of us $1000 will amply be a problem, whereas for others it is a major factor, simply because they cannot afford it.

I've had a look at INNOSETUP, but at least at that time the ease of use of installshield has stopped me from going to inno setup.

Hoi Walter,

I don't know about IS as delivered with vfp. I use IS Professional 6.2 for a certain application and it are mainly its C-like language and its object model that drove me mad. It can let you do anything, but only some things can be done simple.
For my shareware product I have tried some competitors and InnoSetup enabled me to do the job with relative ease. I understand the concept and the interface.
A point is, are we always best helped with a product that can do everything, or is a limited app sometimes the better choice? In case of IS, everything is tied to complexity, and in InnoSetup simplicity is tied to popular demands.

I now use InnoSetup and the ISTool.
