I haven't got any dates in grids to test this on but how about:

The date in the grid is in a text box, right?
Set the DateFormat property to American. I believe only format 0 and the long & short date options obey set century.

UPDATE: Oh, I read your question as you only wanted a 2-digit year. Now I'm not sure.
