Yes I did. A sad event, but I thought it was much more recently than 1935 (possibly around 1985), at least I do remember it and I'm not that old! Perhaps it was partially owned in 1935 by the "Kraft-Walker" company. Kraft is a big brand in Australia of course.
We're still all "happy little vegemites", here's the tune...

>I know that vegemite originated in Australia, but did you know that it is now wholly owned and made by an American company? In 1935 it was sold to Kraft Foods. Of course, I think they only manufacture and sell it in Australia...

>>We all like our Vegemite here (in fact I had some for breakfast on toast not one hour ago. Lovely. The secret is a good coating of butter on the toast, real butter. And it helps if you burn the toast a little, that way you can't really see the vegemite :-)

>>But Marmite ! That stuff tastes lousy. Nobody (well almost nobody) likes it here! Ditto for Bonox

>>>Eck! eck! The very thought of it! I always say that if the good Lord had meant us to eat PB then he would have given us Teflon-coated mouths and, if vegimite - he wouldn't have given us the wince reflex. Vegimite is Australian. The equivalent we get here is Marmite. They have a very clever ad campaign that concentrates on the people who hate it. One example has a young guy who's just met this hot girl, and gone back to her place. She has a bite of a M sandwich and then they kiss. Next scene he pushes her off in disgust and tries to scrub his tongue!
