I honestly don't know.
But, on further reflection, I would make sure it is OFF no matter what!

2 weeks ago I got a new PC (XP Pro SP2), and I forgot to turn write caching off. Within 5 hours, saving a WORD document, I got a message that 'some data was lost... blah blah blah'.
It was then that I remembered the write cache settings (3 HDs in system).
I immediately turned them all OFF and haven't had the problem since, having save dozens of word docs, run lots of VFP updating, etc.

I personally think there's a problem in Windows when it comes to write caching... which also leads me to believe that there's a problem in its OPLOCKS mechanisms too.
