Chris;

Just one answer from me. Gain corporate acceptance. Access is guaranteed that acceptance by its marketing niche.

There are some companies that use Access for major applications, which are mission critical. This is something I would not recommend. I have done my share of rewrites of Access applications into other languages as well as having to make Access code work written by consultants. When the customer or boss says do it, you do it!

It seems that Access was touted as an office tool to help create reports for management. It could be used by anyone with a PC. Then people began using Access as a development tool for complex projects.

One Access developer told me that one of his applications had “hundreds of users, millions of records and was very fast”. That has not been my experience.

As has been said many times previously, use the right tool for the job. One software tool cannot be compared to a Swiss Army Knife or all-purpose gizmo. Some tools are better than others for a specific purpose. So far in my software development career I have used 14 different tools. These tools seem to come and go like the wind.

By the way to me VFP is the tool I like to use for software development over all others. It sure beats an IBM 360 and FORTRAN! :)
