Both of them work on the same concept. The remote view is much easier to maintain as you have a visual interface. Though you might end up using a mixture of both depending on your requirements.

This statement is slightly confusing. Are you trying to update 1 million records at a time? or is it that you have a table with 1 million records and you are updating just couple of records?
