>>...however... if this is the case then why do you have both VB.NET and C# ?? I mean they're both the same thing right? So all these IT shops and companies are asking "should I use VB.NET or C# ??" the only thing different here is ...what... a little bit of syntax? Ok so if that's the case, then one *should* be able to put foxpro syntax in .NET for all the same reasons.... just like pascal and delphi.net ... It's not like VB6 is a whole lot like VB.NET is it? VB.NET breaks all the VB6 apps, VFP3.0 broke all the fox 2.6 apps, what's one more? The benefit would be familar syntax for VFP developers, benfit marketing wise would be ...uhhh... like new product? And how about one common codebase to maintain??

People learning .NET can take their VFP skills and easily map them to VB.NET. It appears that sometimes fear of the unknown is playing a role in the discussions on this thread.

So back to what I said ... what's the point of having both VB.NET AND C# ?? The same argument can be made - yet another language to select from that looks very much like the other.
And drain resources? VFP doesn't share the same codebase as .NET - seems logial that it would actually take LESS resources in the long run.

As for mapping skills from one to the other, I've found the transition between VFP and C# an eaiser one than VFP to VB.NET. I didVB.NET first & have even done more with it than C#, but I like C# better because the syntax (to me anyway) seems closer to VFP than VB.NET does.
The fear of the unknown? I know what's happening here, I just don't know when. My only fear is that a client will want something written that I know I could spit out with VFP in a couple of days but it'll take me a whole week to do it in C# because it doesn't have a data engine like VFP & my client will demand that I write it in something that MS currenlty markets. Hey no real problem for me - I'll make more $, but I'll feel like I'm wasting time.
