Hi,
I think the best way to explain this is this way, we have approx 700 clients all up, we always quote for both the hardware and software installations, but as the client always knows someone that will supply the hardware at a cheaper price, we don't always get the hardware supply and installation.

We do not have any problems with oplocking or caching on the installations we supply, but we have had problems with all the installations done by others.

Upon inspection of the equipment the quality is never what we specified, but always something far lesser in quality i.e. that why it is cheaper. With these installations, the only way to get stability in the system is to disable read & write caching & oplocking, as the client as always refuses to pay any more than what is quoted.

Also the level of technical expertise of the other installers varies greatly and this has quite a bit to do with the problems experienced.

In testing VFP9 Beta we haven't had any failures as yet, only time differences in say writing 100,000 records to a file after applying some security updates, but then again the only real test is when you do field trials which we are not ready for at present.

Hope this helps.
Regards N Mc Donald
