My comments about Paul's authority/comment on amateur vs. professional were tongue and cheek. Concerning the rest of your post, you won't get any argument from me...

...although I don't know enough about .Net to say whether or not someone with enough experience and having built a framework, classes etc. in .Net that can be re-used to provide a "simple" app in the same amount of time and for the same cost as someone with years of VFP experience. If this were the case the end customer would not see it as overkill because they would be getting the same product in the same amount of time for the same cost.
