You are right (and I am stupid). I did recall the similar thread from about 18 months ago, but when I did a search for all my previous messages it did not appear (although it did when I performed the search about 10 minutes ago!)

Anyway, as you suggested then, I have solved the problem by returning the DO FORM ... TO ... value to a form property instead of a local variable. I have since discovered that it also works if the variable is private instead of local.
