It sound as if whatever user you are logged in as does not have dbo rights or create rights for that matter.

Recheck your connection and make sure you have the right user.

If after checking your user you still have the problem have the dba sit with you on a machine that has Query Analyzer and log in as your user to test your dbo rights.
