SMS message can be sent once you have a GSM modem,GSM modem will carry a SIM which will assign modem a unique No., In Fact all your mobiles are GSM modems, the kit you downloaded must be working with a model of Nokia cellphone.

GSM modem/mobile can be plugged in to your serial port through connecting cable and there are activex controls and API available to code and make it working.

There exist other solution too, say few GSM operators provide services like e-mail to SMS,
My provider supports it. My mobile no is +919821053938 and provider is BPL.

You can sms me by just sending e-mail on 9821053938@bplmobile.com and the SMS matter can be written in subject.
