Because of a bug, VFP could create a new entry in the internal Name Table every time you run select with the same cursor name and eventually fill up it. It usually manifest itself as a cursor with empty name but may, I guess, cause C5. Creating a variable with the same name as a cursor prevents creation of extraneous entries.
