>thats ok <g>. i have a mixed environment here (and future customers). so i must make it work in win98 and up. i have been playing around with the idea to set minimum requirenments for my app to winXP, but i realy don't wanna force my customers to do that - specially since i strongly believe that this must be possible. but so far have not been able to do it - well, i'll keep on tryin.

By the way Gunnar, in XP there are a series of prn* scripts to manage printers, spools, ports etc, they all use WMI (at least I think they all use WMI, I do not use them myself, just browsed them quickly once) and maybe, just maybe and it is probably not the case, there are some similar scripts in Win98 (I do not have it, so I can not check it), the list of the scripts are:
prncnfg.vbs
prndrvr.vbs
prnjobs.vbs
prnmngr.vbs
prnport.vbs
prnqctl.vbs
Oh, and about your minimun requirements, you can say something like "Some of the features, like automatic printer installation will only be available for Win XP+", unless until you find the way
