I have System Restored to a time before I installed some specific software (besides all of the attempts at replacing the Marvell Yukon driver) and I SEEM to be back to normal.
If anyone is interested, the software was:
1) an install of an Adobe photo editing suite that came with another product;
2) Pagis Pro 3.0 + required update (an SP) for XP compatability. This is a scanner/data management product.
