I am looking at having a separate file server with samba and then having to have a separate database server (if i use sql server) on one of my win2000 machines (I don't have a winserver machine). If i use mysql, i can integrate that into one server.

Is this something that could be overcome easily? right now, i am merging to free tables that are created from the database when a change is made to a table within the database. a little confusing but it has served me well so far. however, having all the database security in the world doesn't help if i am creating free tables in order to merge them into word documents.

Paul,
I didn't understand the question. As per, word, it's easier to get info from SQL server than getting from VFP free tables. Both are easy but you know to MS, SQL server is more equal:)
