>I found your website interesting. I lived in Appleton, WI years ago and had no idea it was #1 on the list for safest cities. Fond du Lac is number 2? Must be all that beer drinking in Wisconsin - everyone is passed out and too drunk to commit a crime (or it is just too darn cold to go outside and commit one)...

Thanks Tracy,

I guess enforcement of the law worked then, huh. When I first started college, I majored in Criminal Justice, then changed to Psychology, until I figured out you had to have a PhD to make any money, then fell in love with computers and changed to computer science. Being a cop, it seemed like a natural progression for me. Suppressing crime is really about changing behavior, which is what you learn in Psych 1101. Administer the reward as closely as possible to the act and you can shape behavior. Our "leaders" don't get it here in Memphis. They think you can go out and talk to people, or clean the grafitti, or clean up the lots and that will suppress crime. They are missing the other piece, which is to draw a line in the sand and dare the criminals to cross it. Then, WHEN they do, you administer the negative reinforcement. This is the model used in New York City under Rudy G. It's not rocket science, if one has criminal tendencies and believes society will tolerate them, one might try to "get over." If police and the courts enforce the laws, the criminal will either cease his/her actions or go elsewhere.

In a nutshell, that's why I'm running for office. I am not a politician, nor do I aspire to be, but I have been the most effective cop in our metro area in the last decade. I have been developing software and sharing or giving it to other officers and agencies since about 1988 and I get a lot of satisfaction seeing officers and prosecutors from all over the midsouth using my software and putting criminals away. If I were a politician, I probably would be a chief today, but I don't have much nuance. What you see is what you get. However, one thing is certain; if you ask me a question, you will get an honest answer. I have done all I can do at my level and the only way I can have a greater impact is if I can drive the train! Since we are the 44th largest metro area and yet the 2nd most dangerous, I think it's time for a new engineer.
