Bret,
Hmm why did I want to leave. Well I was here as an exchange student both in high school and college. I got a lot of good friends while I as in HS here. I think I like people better here in Wisconsin compared to Norway. Also part of it was the challenge to start over in a new country. Also my fiance (now my wife) didn't want to move to Norway (she lived with me there for about 5 months but missed her friends and family). Also the fact that this is the land of milk and honey where the streets are paved with gold :)
I come from the northern part of Norway (way above the artic circle) and I must say I sure do not miss the total darkness in the winter. The fact that the sun is up 24/7 in the summer might seem nice at first but it gets annoying when you want to sleep.
I am going back to Norway on vacation for the first time in 5 years (first time for my kids to see norway). I am looking forward to it but it will be hard to talk norwegian again.
Ohh well probably more information than you needed but I had some time to kill while I am uploading something.

Semper ubi sub ubi.
