Even though the checkbox is displayed already, you have to set it visible.
Every objects created with CREATEOBJECT or ADDOBJECT are by default .visible = .f., regardless of what the class definition says. The grid displays such controls nevertheless, but they behave as if ReadOnly or disabled, because they are invisible...
