In a different app that I saw this in the frx was not compiled into the project so at the time I thought maybe that was the problem, but in this instance the frx is included in the project....

hmmmm,
only other thing I can think of at the moment is the printer. The preview uses whatever printer is currently selected. If the printer is unavalable then the preview will hang. If it is a net printer on another station and it has not been used since the last time the PC was restarted then it could take a moment to attach to it.
