The more south you go, the fewer consonants are pronounced, specially around the last syllable. And those that are pronounced get softened and melt somehow into each other... often I hear "tode" when they said "tote"... so it's not that you need to learn speaking, but rather to ler howa lisn...

...unless he lands in the Miami area as he supposes. Then he is in the north again. He will hear NY/NJ accents.
