>The Canadian taxation department has (once again) adopted a crazy "rule" for the application of GST/HST, this time to your service.
>
>I do not see ANY reason why I have to pay the rate of the HST when I live in Ontario. I can understand the requirement for me to pay the GST, but certainly not the extra portion added by the "HST". Neither I nor my province gets ANY benefit from the HST portion of the imposed tax! It follows, therefore, that there is no sound reason for me to pay it. It is not my domain to ameliorate the financial situation of other provinces. While the Federal government has a definite role in doing just that, they can do it out of my GST payments and should not expect me to subsidize the participating maritime provinces too!!!
>
>I further understand that non-residents of Canada are being FORCED to pay this HST too. Personally I view this as a huge embarrassment for Canada and Canadians! It makes us ALL look like money-grubbing nickel-and-dimers who happily pick the pockets of anyone who happens our way!
>I cannot fathom how any non-resident purchasing a service here - especially without ever having to set foot in Canada - can be charged ANY Canadian tax. Only the silly Taxation department of the Canadian government could come up with some "logic" that it believes supports such a stupid idea.

>I hope, Michel, that you can achieve a reversal of this STUPID stance by the federal taxation people.

An harmonized sales tax province cannot split its tax to 7%. That was the easiest part of the process when it was established more than a year ago. In Canada, it's 15% for all from New Brunswick and two other provinces if I recall correctly. There is also procedures you can do to claim it back, from what I understood.

I also agree with your points.
