Data explorer was not populating list of SQL DBs for me. After stepping through code, I found out the call to "SP_HELPDB" was returning error because one of the problem described here: http://www.fogcreek.com/FogBugz/KB/errors/CannotinsertthevalueNULLi.html.

I think it was assumed that "SP_HELPDB" will always succeed so no error trapping is implemented. It would be great if we get a message box with SQL Error in such cases.
