>For Christians, it is Good Friday, Sunday is Easter. The Jews celebrate Passover but it does not usually coincide with the Christian Easter celebration. This year I think Passover/Seder that falls on the weekend of April 23rd.
Actually, Easter and Passover usually do coincide, though I recently learned the rules for the date of (Roman) Easter prohibit it from falling on the first day of Passover. The formula for Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox (unless it's the first day of Passover).
Passover falls on the 15th day of Nisan, which is the 7th month in the Jewish calendar. Because it's a lunar calendar, Jewish dates move around in the solar calendar. A regular Jewish year has about 360 days. To keep the holidays from moving to different times of year, 7 years in every 19 are leap years, in which a whole month is added to the calendar. The month comes between the 6th and 7th months.
Obviously, this year is a leap year and, in fact, it's the latest leap year in the cycle. As a result, Passover runs into May, which happens only once in 19 years (the latest time was when my younger son was born) and Rosh Hashanah is in October this year.
More than you ever wanted to know about this. <g>
