>I've been to a slaughter house at Texas A&M University. Yeah, there's a reason why it's called a slaughter house. But it's about as humane and cost effective as you can get if you're a meat eater. Everything is quick and effecient.

I've visited one too. While I agree that it's all done basically as efficiently as possible (even from the point of view of the animal) it is the VOLUME that amazed me! More than 1,000 animals per DAY, every day!!! When I think about that it really gets me wondering about the volumes and volumes of THINGS that society now expects, with corporations only too happy to make those things.

It's pretty clear evidence to me that none of this activity can be sustained. It's all well and good when only a small part of earth's population WANTS this stuff and can actually have it. But as the number of wanters grows, trouble can be easily foreseen.
It won't be too long before only the rich can afford beef for a meal, or a car, or gasoline or ....

We are far too wasteful and far far too demanding and these factors NEED to be dampened severely.

cheers

By the way, I still eat meat and enjoy it immensely!
