I had a chance to view a business accounting app made in .Net and it's framework. On a very fast Intel server (not a PIV but faster, I don't know the specific chip Xeon?) the app comes up after 30secs or more. Wow that's fast.
My VFP6 app loads practically instantly. Hi, Bhavbhuti,
Well, I hate to disappoint Denis, but I doubt anyone will 'flame' you. ;)
However, it does raise some points and questions:
1) If the app is being run for the 1st time, there is always the initial load of the .NET Framework, which can take several seconds, depending on the machine. (Though I've never seen it take 30 seconds). Subsequent loads are always faster. This is a general fact of life for .NET apps.
2) You say your VFP6 app loads instantly. Is it doing the same things as this accounting app?
3) Related question...what is this business accounting app doing at startup? Is the 30 seconds completely due to loading the framework, are there database checks or other application checks being done? Any info might be helpful.
I'll probably have follow-up questions, but at least we can start with these.
Thanks,
Kevin
