I was told that operating system and sp level were the same between the machines. However, I have not verified for myself as they are offsite. The print driver has been deleted and reinstalled (more than once) on the problem computer, with no change.

There is a printer connected to LPT1: on the problem computer. There is no printer configured for the computer without the problems.
