Then, perhaps, you are in danger. I would suggest you use subdocuments.

It may also help to link the images externally, i.e., not store them in the Word document. Check the options when you "Insert | Image".

That might depend on how many images you have. I suspected you might have only a few, but you say that you have "many" of them.
