Hi David,
>Do you like making your users think they can click the buttons when they really can't?
Of course, anything I can do to confuse my users and insure a steady stream of support calls is good job security [evil grin]
Actually, VFP does a great job of disabling the button borders and captions, but a crappy job (IMO) of rendering disabled images. Unfortunately, I don't have the artistic skills or budget to create a duplicate set of high quality disabled images to match my primary image collection.
So, IMO again, using a duplicate of a button's image for a button's disabledpicture property results in a much more professional disabled button appearance than relying on VFP's default behavior.
Its too early to judge whether this decision is a good one, but so far I've only gotten compliments on the new look. No complaints or confusion so far.
Why don't you give my technique a try and see if you have a difficult time determining if a command button is disabled or not? I'm curious to hear what others (outside my user community) think of this approach.
