I have checked my Grid and all the columns have finite widths with values greater than zero. It turns out the black stripe was due to a setting in the delete mark as .t. when it should have been .f.

The whole black stripe issue turns out to be a red herring.

I have 2 free calls to MS, it looks like I will have to call them on this.
