I gave your solution a try and didn't see any difference in behavior in the grid's scrollbar. After reading everyone's responses, I've come to the conclusion that what I'm trying to do really doesn't make sense given the design of a grid control.

Speaking of performance issues, have you tried VFP 9's new grid Optimize property? I've heard wOOdy speak highly of the speed improvements when this property is set to True (this property defaults to False).

My grids are usually small enough that I haven't had any problems with performance, but I will keep you SET KEY technique in mind in the future.
