Ah, I hate it when my name is pronounced "Mickdonnell", or, worst still "Mick-doNELL". I insist that "Mc" is pronounced "Mac". I've noticed that US Macdonalds adverts always feature a distinct "Mick" sound to the name. It even bugs me on their behalf! :-) To my understanding, Mc is an abbr. of Mac (such a saving!). IN fact, the Gaelic spelling of my name is like "Macdomnhail"
