>Ah, I hate it when my name is pronounced "Mickdonnell", or, worst still "Mick-doNELL". I insist that "Mc" is pronounced "Mac". I've noticed that US Macdonalds adverts always feature a distinct "Mick" sound to the name. It even bugs me on their behalf! :-) To my understanding, Mc is an abbr. of Mac (such a saving!). IN fact, the Gaelic spelling of my name is like "Macdomnhail"
In Serbian, you'd be pronounced "Teri Megdonel", accent on o. How'd you like that?
This transformation (k to g or vice versa, p to b or vice versa, etc), is called "equalization by aspiration" and is one of the troubles the sixth-graders have when they learn that part of the grammar. They usually all know how to pronounce it instinctively - they just hate it that there's actual rules to it, and that they have to learn such a long expression (luckily, this one is not in Latin) to describe it.
