Ah, I hate it when my name is pronounced "Mickdonnell", or, worst still "Mick-doNELL". I insist that "Mc" is pronounced "Mac". I've noticed that US Macdonalds adverts always feature a distinct "Mick" sound to the name. It even bugs me on their behalf! :-) To my understanding, Mc is an abbr. of Mac (such a saving!). IN fact, the Gaelic spelling of my name is like "Macdomnhail"

>>I was married for 8 months (a story not worth retelling) but retained the lastname for almost 10 years. It was 'McMinn' and by those in the family it was pronounced 'Mickminn' yet most could not spell or pronounce it. Drove me nuts.
Sounds like Macdonalds food for Vietnamese soldiers! :-)
>>I entered the Army with that name and only kept it because it was such a hassle in the military when your lastname changed. No one could ever spell it and usually called me 'Mac' (even though there was no Mac in McMinn).
I'd have been contented with that - beats "Mick"
