I guess that Avalon will be released far ahead of Longhorn, to be run in XP. Indeed, the latest previews are not so unstable anymore. I guess they are near stabilizing the thing. In any case, I don't believe they would provide anything similar until they don't have this running. Sounds like effort duplication.

PS: Don't you have any new article in mind for me? 8-)
