>Hmm why do I want the PPC to transfer the files? That is a good question. That is kinda how it has been done in the past on other handheld devices. In Palm OS we have a DLL that is called by the HotSync application, but initiating HotSync is done from the cradle. When the DLL was called from HotSync it could access records in tables on the PAlm device and write files on the PC. I don't know if it is comparing apples to apples.
>Another issue that I just thought of. We want to transfer XML files just like you are, but I want the data stored on the PPC in a SQL CE database. Do you use SQL CE in your PPC app? If you are when do you create the XML file to be transfered?

Einar,
In our program we don't utilize SQL SE database at all. The data is stored in XML files only.

As far as why I chose to have PC application controlling when and what files go to PC and from PC.

1. My thinking was, I don't want to have ActiveSync doing file transfer automatically because this is prone to problems. What if user puts PPC in a cradle before he/she really wants to transfer the data to the PC or back (that is, maybe they just put it in the cradle to have the PPC charged).
2. And I didn't want the controlling to be done from PPC because as far as UI on PPC you can't do it as nicely and as user-friendly as you would on a PC. PC applications are always richer, in terms of UI and power. They are easier for user to see what they are trying to do, etc.

Those were my reasoning for put most of the control of file(s) transfer on PC application.

And this is our first PPC application so I reserve the right to change my mind in the future <g>.
