The can be invoked from the report, but the function itself must be: in a separate PRG file MyFunction.prg; as one of many procedures within a library function, defined with FUNCTION MYFUNCTION or PROCEDURE MYFUNCTION; or in the database stored procedures.

Never done it myself but can you not have functions in the format part of a report expression? i.e. X2-click on a report field, then click on the Format button to get into the expression builder. Maybe functions in there?
