>>>Reagan.

>>Why do you think that? I can think of nothing noteworthy. He lied about the Iran/Contra affair.

>He lied? Surprise! They all do. Reagan did more for the domestic economy that anyone since Roosevelt. He at least - like the current president - believed in what he was trying to do, rather than playing with cigars in the oval office. I would rather have someone of conviction than some clown I can find at any country club. I also think Carter had a firm belief in what he was doing, but he was wishy-washy and not nearly as effective.

Presidents do very little, if anything positive for the economy. Companies and consumers make the economy. What did Reagan know about economics? He was an actor, both before and while holding office. His dismantling of the public mental health system turned patients into prison inmates. Placed people like James Watt in power, who believed that conservation of the environment was not necessary since God would destroy the world at the Second ComingTM.

Reagan's great tax cut got me an extra one dollar for forty hours after taxes. And I was working in the trades making good money for the time. We paid a crippling interest on the debt that was run up under that administration, building a military that was not used, which has been scrapped, in a race to bankruptcy that the Soviets won. Now it looks that the forces of poverty in that country are encouraging a fascism and totalitarianism that could rival the Soviet regime.

Communism would have collapsed in the USSR anyway. There was nothing to hold it together. It was only a name anyway. Had not been communism since the 20's. That's why we ignore China's communism, it's just a word, doesn't mean anything anymore, but they make stuff cheap that low wage Americans can buy at WalMart.

As much as Clinton was a stupid jerk about his escapades (when he lied, 1700+ soldiers didn't die), he is truly intelligent. American success story. Common white trash from the south that made good. Educated, Rhodes scholar that tried to care about regular folk because he had been one. Bush is a pampered rich kid, who never held a real job. See his type at the country club all the time. Mediocre to bad business leader. Crashed two oil related companies in Texas, once as a CFO, once as a CEO, and walked off clean and rich both times. Brother Neil crashed his oil wildcatting firm as well and defaulted on SBA loans, after his savings and loan hijinks. I guess the later Bush seed couldn't measure up.

Grandpa Prescott raked in the bucks selling supplies to Hitler prior to America's involvement in WWII, and gave money to eugenics resarch. Too bad his involvement in that research didn't pay off. He might have known why his grandkids were such moral losers.
