Yes'm...Bay of Pigs, Iraq after the first Gulf conflict, and on. We also help so many of those that we later condemn and attack (or try to undercut) because they serve a narrow purpose at the time. As long as Hussein was killing Iranians he was our ally, as long as the Taliban was fighting the Soviets, they were worthy of support. Although, if an elected leader started talking about land reform in his impoverished third world country to help the peasants and indigenous people, then call the CIA to start up the insurgency against that leader.

>Our country is infamous for getting involved and then backing out when our help is needed the most. In many instances we should never have gotten involved to begin with (my POV), but almost worse is setting things in motion and then deserting those we supported and pushed to act. In many, many (too many) cases it caused more deaths and a situation worse than what it was originally. We have a very bad habit of sticking our noses (and military guidance, weapons, and funds) where it shouldn't be (even when we are asked for help) and then walking away in the middle of it all because the political climate has changed.
