I have been using Oracle and ODBC with VFP since 5.0. Slow downs like this are usually related to the TNS configuration on the client machine, bad configuration on the Oracle server or sometimes network routing issues.

I would usually have to bring over one of the Oracle DBAs or DBDs we had on staff to track down configuration issues. So I can't be much help there, but they could usually track down the problem using the Oracle client tools.

As far as performance tuning, I would normally get better performance from the "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" driver over the "Oracle ODBC" driver. But the Microsoft driver has limited functionality.
