Hi Hilmar,

>She is currently establishing a connection with function SQLCONNECT(), establishing an ODBC connection.

Has she upgraded to the latest ODBC driver and Oracle Networks? Oracle is constantly providing updates. If the delay was caused by a bug, it might have been fixed.

Oracle has different clients and different protocols to connect to the server. If her current configuration doesn't work, she might want to try a different one like the InstantClient instead of fully ODBC driver product. Or, she could try Microsoft ODBC drivers instead of Oracle's, or vice versa.

In my experience, connecting to an Oracle server going through the TNS listener is slower than connecting to a Microsoft server. That's why we don't use remote views with oracle. Also, we have a connection manager class that maintains a collection of open connections. Andy Kramek had an article about such a class in Advisor a couple of years ago (1997, or so). You also should find these classes in one of the books, maybe MegaFox (don't have it here to check).
