Hi John,

>>>PMFJI John but if an organization presents themselves as the representatives and mouthpiece of God then they have given up the option of claiming human fallability in their actions.
>
>Who claimed human fallability? My point is that populist bias singles out subsets of society for blame. It seems to be a human trend- whether it be people of different skin colour, different political persuasion, gender, sexual orientation or creed, groups of humans seem to take a grudge against other subsets of humanity, assembling a litany of fault as if the target is uniquely responsible for such behaviour. The current target seems to be organized religion, with Islam and Christianity topping the hit-list. Pointing this out does not make me an apologist for any outrages committed by organized religions.

The singling out of organized religion happened in this thread simply because this thread drifted into a discussion on religion. Religion is not being singled out per se, it just happened to be the topic being discussed. And these religions have a lot to answer for.

>>>In a previous post, Message #1031414, you try to excuse the past errors of organized religion by presenting three arguments (1) that certain abuses of power happened a long time ago, (2) saying these were committed at a time when that religion had great power but now they have less and (3) that all insitutions have skeletons in the closet.
>
>Your paraphrasing isn't fully accurate... no matter. I'm not making excuses. My point is as per the above- it is intellectually dishonest to single out religion as if it is uniquely responsible for outrage, or as if selected outrages diminish it compared to other organized human groups.

My answer above and address' all your other points.

>>>Otherwise you really get to have your cake and eat it - you can commit acts in the name of God and then, when these prove unfavourable, claim innocence because we are only human. Do me a favour.
>
>I challenge you to show me where you found that in my post. You can't. I've done you a favour by pointing that out. ;-)

I challenge you to show me where I said that you said that. It is simply a conclusion I make from the comments in my post.
