Hi John,
>I started out talking about VFP-style cursors and encountered quite a few people who reacted vigorously to "VFP" and "cursor", seemingly without grasping the underlying concept. I don't lay claim to the "Persistent autospanning local datasets" term (who cares where it came from) but it does seems to allow discussion of a feature that has been taken for granted by Foxers since the FP2 days and would be a real boost for dotNET.
Ususally I talk about "client-side embedded database mechanisms", as this topic can be forked over to more "respected" embedded systems as witness of a respected code pattern. If I don't mention how tight the embedding is in vfp's case, I usually can point out that this "pattern" scratches a solid itch, especially in road-warrior scenarios. But newspeak was *not* in brave new world, but 1984...<g>
