>Here we go again. When Maher Arar (an innocent Canadian citizen) was sent by the U.S. to Syria to be tortured for about a year, I have a sneaking feeling he felt it was something more than a 'little inconvenience'. I'd be willing to bet good money that if it happened to you, you'd also call it more than a 'little inconvenience'. It's only seen as that when it happens to other people. And it's completely disingenuous to pretend that it's no big deal as long as it's not happening to you.

Yup. Looks like that was very unfortunate indeed.
But mistakes are going to occur with thing like this. Heck, wrong people are convicted and aquited every day in our judicial system. But we don't throw out the whole system do we? What else is better? All we can do is do our best with what we have.

What is the best way to prevent things like 911s and 77s in London from happening again? Should we not do anything?
The American Republic will endure, until politicians realize they can bribe the people with their own money.
- Alexis de Tocqueville

No man’s life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session.
