>>Here we go again. When Maher Arar (an innocent Canadian citizen) was sent by the U.S. to Syria to be tortured for about a year, I have a sneaking feeling he felt it was something more than a 'little inconvenience'. I'd be willing to bet good money that if it happened to you, you'd also call it more than a 'little inconvenience'. It's only seen as that when it happens to other people. And it's completely disingenuous to pretend that it's no big deal as long as it's not happening to you.

>Yup. Looks like that was very unfortunate indeed.
>But mistakes are going to occur with thing like this. Heck, wrong people are convicted and aquited every day in our judicial system. But we don't throw out the whole system do we? What else is better? All we can do is do our best with what we have.

Of course actions need to be taken, but grabbing just anybody off the street and subjecting them to torture is probably not the best way. It certainly isn't a way that jives with what the U.S. implies to the world that it represents. Land of the free? Maybe that line should be deleted from the U.S. anthem while they're at it. Or maybe just alter the line to be "Land of the 'free to not look like a Muslim'". Nah, wrecks the meter.
